Meet the Farmers
South Paw Farm is run by its hard working seasonal work crew and the owners Margaret (Meg) and Ryan Mitchell. All the crew folks listed below are kind-hearted, brilliant, strong, possess persistent work ethic, and have skilled intuition. The farm was started by Meg when she was 21 years old in Unity, Maine. This land was a scrubby and beautiful piece of raw land that Meg built into a small and diversified organic farm. Meanwhile, in that same year, Ryan started his first year of apple picking at Sweetser's Apple Barrel in Cumberland Center. They both spent the next 4 seasons not knowing each other existed, but following a parallel dream of agricultural pursuits. They finally met at the Portland Farmers' Market through mutual friends. In 2015 they bought the farm they now reside on: 64 acres of diversified farmland and an 1800's farmhouse in Freedom, Maine. They cultivate 20 acres of high and dry vegetable land.
